- Developing teamwork
In the drills found on the following pages, the players, in the course of attacking, position themselves in continuously attacking diagonal or continuously defending diagonal!!!
1st Step:
Objective: getting the ball – initiating attack along the sides of the pitch – switching point of attack – returning ball to the starting point
Organization: 4 + 1 ball + goalkeeper
Dimensions: 1/2 pitch
Description:
1: goalkeeper receives ball
2: the inside defender moving towards the 16 meter line receives ball
3: inside defender sends right back defender forward
4: right back defender passes to diagonally moving inside defender
5: inside defender sends left back defender forward
6: carrying the ball
7: passes to diagonally moving other inside defender
8: passing to the coach who is in starting position
2nd Step:
Objective: getting the ball – initiating play via the defending midfielder – switching point of attack – returning ball to the starting point
Organization: 5 + 1 ball + goalkeeper
Dimensions: 1/2 pitch
Description:
1: goalkeeper receives ball
2: the inside defender moving towards the 16 meter line receives ball
3: inside defender pass to right back defender
4: pass to diagonally moving defending midfielder
5: defending midfielder sends the left back defender while inside defender moves to ball’s defensive diagonal. Defending midfielder moves to inside defender’s attacking diagonal
6: carrying the ball
7: return pass to inside defender moving along defensive diagonal
8: passing to the coach who is in starting position
3rd Step:
Objective: getting the ball – initiating via the defender midfielder and attacking midfielder – involving T4 in play – returning ball to the starting position
Organization: 6 + 1 ball + goalkeeper

Description:
1: goalkeeper receives ball
2: the inside defender moving towards the 16 meter line receives ball
3: inside defender pass to right back defender
4: pass to diagonally attacking defending midfielder
5: pass to diagonally attacking midfielder

4th Step:
Objective: getting the ball, bringing the ball out via the defending midfielder, the attacking midfielder and the left back defender, initiating attacking along the wing (flank)
Organization: 8 + 1 ball + goalkeeper
Dimensions: 3/4 pitch
Description:
1: goalkeeper receives ball
2: the inside defender moving towards the 16 meter line receives ball
3: inside defender pass to right back defender
4: pass to diagonally attacking right covering player
5: pass to defending midfielder moving along defending diagonal
6: pass to retreating attacking midfielder
7: pass to diagonally attacking left covering player
8: sending left back defender forward
9-10: carrying the ball, passing play and finishing the attack
5th Step:
Objective: getting the ball, build up of attack on the entire pitch
Organization: 6 + 1 ball + goalkeeper

Description:
1: goalkeeper receives ball
2: the inside defender moving towards the 16 meter line receives ball
3: inside defender pass to right back defender
4: pass to diagonally attacking right covering player
5: pass to defending midfielder moving along defending diagonal
6: pass to retreating attacking midfielder
7: pass to diagonally attacking left covering player
8: left covering player sends the advancing center forwards
9: carrying the ball. Left covering player, while possessing is always moving on a defensive diagonal.
10: penetration, finishing the attack
6th Step: Developing teamwork
Instructional stages:
– walk
– jog
– everyone carrying ball forward (sharing of attention)
– everyone pulls ball back
– one ball is handed from player to player
The meaning of commands shouted by the coach:
– „Possess (Capture the ball)!” = transition from defending to attacking. (setting up in attacking formation)
– „Attack!” = team moves forward TOGETHER.
– „Stop!” = team stops forward motion TOGETHER.
– „Lost the ball! (Losing possession)” = transition from attacking to defending. (setting up in defending formation)
– „Pull back!” = Team moves backward TOGETHER in defensive formation.
Objective:
– the players, while moving in attacking or defending formations must maintain their distance and angles to each other!!
„During movement: eye on the ball!!”

Description:
Team in defensive formation.
On the coach’s command („Possess!”) the players increase their playing area in width and length, and set up in attacking formation.
Objective:
- Moving forward in attacking formation
Description:
Team in attacking formation.
On coach’s command („Attack!”) the players move forward, deep.
ON coach’s command („Stop!”) the players interrupt their forward movement.
Objective:
- Transition from attacking to defending
Description:
Team in attacking formation, in opponent’s half.
On coach’s command („Losing possession!”) the players set up in defending formation.
Objective:
- Pulling back to defending formation
Description:
Team in defending formation, on own half.
On coach’s command („Pull back!”) the players set up in defending formation on their own 16 meter line.
